AIFMD Light Survey 2025: Key Insights into the Dutch Alternative Investment Industry

The alternative investment industry in the Netherlands is at a pivotal moment, as revealed in the AIFMD Light Survey 2025 report. This comprehensive study, conducted by LeadingMile in collaboration with fundbuddy and Van Campen Liem, provides a detailed look at the challenges and opportunities facing fund managers in an evolving regulatory and operational landscape.

The survey has gathered insights from 50 Dutch alternative investment managers. It highlights key trends shaping the industry. While many fund managers are focused on scaling operations and increasing fund sizes, challenges such as increased regulatory requirements and digital scaling challenges present hurdles to sustainable growth.

Our key findings include:

  • In technology adoption, 68% of respondents report are using at least one tech solutions. Among those who do, Fundrbird leads in the middle-to-back-office space. RegLab is the most widely used KYC and compliance solution.
  • One of the most common processes prioritized for investment is systems and technology. With 48% of them considering a system selection now.
  • Managers are satisfied with tech consultants (median rating is 4 out of 5). However, hiring in tech personnel is low, despite the strong need for tech adoption.
